Am I…?

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways Acknowledge him and he will make your path straight”

I remember one time when I attended a high school graduation celebration and my pastor stood up to share the word of God with those of us that were in attendance. He taught about a topic that I still meditate on and live by 6 years later. The main topic was about Trust and how as Christians, when it comes to trust there are two things that are expected of us. First, Trust in the LORD and second, Be Trustworthy. Before I go furthure in to explaining the two points, I would like to start off by the dictionary definition of the word Trust. Trust, defined by the merriam-webster dictionary is

a: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. b: one in which confidence is placed.

Trust in the LORD

Trusting in the LORD helps us realize that this life we are living on earth and the calling he has placed on our life is not to only be carried out by us and that there is a helper, the Holy Spirit, we can lean on. It helps ease the anxious thought of feeling alone, fearful and stagnant in our life. The second point he mentioned was how as christians we must be trustworthy.

One of the Characters of God that is repeatedly shown throughout the entire Bible is God’s trustworthiness. What he has spoken, he has accomplished and when he promises it is not only for the sake of promising but because he will bring to pass what he has spoken.

Be Trustworthy

Likewise, if we say that we are the children of God and that our life is to imitate him who is our LORD, then we must be trustworthy wherever we go and in all that we do. Is it easy? Granted there are times where it might be hard to keep this character especially because we live in a fallen world. The bible says “train yourself how to be Godly” and if we say that one of the chatacters of God is trustworthiness then we must train ourself to be trustworthy. Training takes time and energy. Sometimes there are moments where we might start with enthusiasm and halfway get discouraged and find it easier to give up. However, God can be trusted in these moments to take us by the hand and lead us through these challenging times. All we have to make sure is that we are not getting our eyes off of him! Every since I have asked myself “If God is trustworthy and I am to train myself to be Godly then am I trustworthy as he is trustwrothy?” Now, we might be held back because of the limitation cause by the first Adam but we have been made new in Christ, who is the second and last Adam and he is able to reveal his strength through our weakness. And If Daniel, Joseph, Esther, Nehemiah served before kings with the favor God has given to be trusted by those that put them in Charge, how much more for those of us that partake in the new covenant in Jesus Christ!
